Bottom bowl assembled
August 22, 1999

I finally got the holes drilled for the bottom bowl piping,
and attached the hoses and ran it more or less completed!

Scott Bartlett came by to help document this historic occation!
Both of us were pretty excited to see it just about done!

Cat included for size comparison :)

Water flow needs confirmation test
July 20, 1999

A friend insisted that I was out of my mind thinking I needed 9000gph.
So I got this 10,500gph pump from Big 4 Rents to make sure.

As you can see, I wasn't crazy. :)

Actually George, Dave and I took turns at the disposible cameras.

First water flow and flame tests
July 11, 1999

This is a 1500gph pump. Looks to be about 1/6 of the bowl.
So I guess I need at least 9000gph of water flow.

Also, 2 litres of fuel lasted about 20 minutes for about 1/4 of the bowl.
So I guess I will use about 1.5gph of fuel for each 1/4 of the bowl -- about 6gph for the whole thing.

If I run 8 hours/day for 8 days, that's a lot of fuel!!!

[Note: the water was spot-on, but the fuel estimates were *waaay* off!
The Cauldron uses about 5 gallons in about 2 hours.
Not so bad afterall!!]

My roommate Dave Cherry held the disposible camera for these shots -- thanx Dave!

AAA Salvage, Oakland CA -- finally found a top bowl!!
June 8, 1999

I found this wonderful bowl at AAA Salvage on 50th and High St. in Oakland CA.
When I bought it, I knew I was in over my head, but it was so lovely, I had to get it anyway!

Photos by Loren Carpenter.
Loren snapped these pics for me when we found the bowl.
I had to return later to pick it up.
